Walyara

In 2023, we are growing our reach across the tropical north, supporting more enterprises from the Kimberley, to the Daintree.
New gifts from Indigenous owned enterprise Walyara are now available from our store and we asked founder, Jaala, to give us more of an insight into what has inspired her one-of-a-kindness journey into enterprise.

How would you describe ways that you give back / pay it forward in our community?

My business started with the idea of giving free haircuts to disadvantaged mob including youth. I volunteer in visiting schools, youth groups and women's groups sharing my personal story and life journey whilst providing free hair services.

What is your one-of-a-kindness story?

Walyara is a small business based in Broome Western Australia that manufactures skin and hair care products using wild harvested native Australian botanicals based on traditional Indigenous practices handed down through the generations.

Can you share with us a story of how you care for country?

I'm continually wild harvesting on country according to seasonal availability each year. The Kakadu Plum fruits twice a year. I pride myself on sustainably harvesting and ensuring maintenance of the natural environment. My products are handmade in small batches to guarantee freshness.
